A Wild Opening Night at Daytona
The SMASH Truck Series officially kicked off Season 1 with the Daytona 150, and it delivered exactly what Daytona always promises — speed, chaos, and zero room for mistakes.
From the drop of the green flag, the field stayed tight, aggressive, and unpredictable. Packs formed early, drivers fought for position, and every lap felt like it could flip the entire race.
This was the first real test of the league — and it didn’t disappoint.
Bechdel Strikes First
When it mattered most, Randy Bechdel came out on top.
With a strong performance and the ability to stay clean when others couldn’t, Bechdel secured the first win in SMASH HQ Truck Series history and leaves Daytona as the early points leader (41 pts).
Setting the tone early in a season like this matters — and Bechdel now becomes the driver everyone is chasing.
Early Championship Picture
Right behind the leader, the points battle is already taking shape:
Scott Tompkins — 35 pts
Jacob Phillips — 32 pts
Justin M Wilson — 32 pts
Jonny Rapp — 29 pts
A tight pack sits just behind the leader, meaning one strong week could completely shake up the standings.
Midfield Is Wide Open
From P6 through the rest of the field, the points are tight and the competition is wide open:
Jeremy Keltner — 26 pts
Jesse R Sampson — 24 pts
Jay Szala — 23 pts
Brady Schreckengost — 20 pts
With how close the points are, consistency is going to be just as important as outright speed.
One Race Down, Everything Still to Play For
Daytona is always unpredictable — and while it sets the tone, it doesn’t define the season.
Some drivers capitalized. Some survived. Some are already looking for a bounce-back.
With one race in the books, the standings are tight, and nothing is locked in.
Final Word
The first race of Season 1 is in the books — and it delivered.
A new league has officially taken its first green flag, and now the pressure shifts to consistency, execution, and staying in the fight week after week.
Randy Bechdel leads. The rest are chasing.
And the season is just getting started.
